Cargo insurance - why insure your cargo ?
Cargo insurance /insurance of goods during transport/ serves the commercial exchange of goods, by protecting physical and legal persons who own cargo, against risks during transport.
All types of cargo are insured, shipped by sea, terrestrial, air or combined transport and related material interests during carriage.
Through our partners from DZI, we offer loss insurance coverage, damage or expenses, due to the insurance event that occurred, caused by hazards in cargo travel over land, air and water.
We recommend that you have cargo insurance even in case, that you use certified and properly insured carriers .
Carrier liability is not a guarantee, that you will be adequately compensated in the event of damage to goods in transit, as under certain circumstances the carrier may be exempted from liability. For international transport, the extent of damages under the relevant international conventions is limited by the weight of the lost or destroyed goods.
This means, that the compensation, paid by the carrier based on its liability, may be significantly less than the actual amount of damage.
The carrier's liability is limited to 8. 33 SPT (synthetic currency, which is determined by several currencies and the weight of their economies in international trade) per kilogram of gross damaged goods.
Current, the value of the compensation , payable by carrier under Carrier's Liability insurance in case of damage , amounts to approx 10.00 EUR per kilogram of gross damaged/missing goods.
Example – for goods with weight 200 kg and invoice value 10 000 BGN - compensation for damage to the entire product, which the carrier owes under "Carrier's Liability" is reduced to :
200 * 10 EUR = 2000 euro .
The example clearly shows, that the compensation is insufficient.
To ensure full coverage in the event of damage, we recommend Cargo Insurance.
